1st Assembly Commemoration Service

The service will be held this year on January 26, 2009 at the First Assembly House near Fields of the Wood.

Fields of the Wood Pictures NEEDED

We are working on preparing new materials (brochures, etc) for Fields of the Wood. We have found that we have very few good photos in a digital format.

If you have any good photos of Fields of the Wood or any of the markers, please email them to me at pholt@cogop.org.

Thanks so much.

Heritage Ministries Association 2009 Membership

On Tuesday, November 18, I was privileged to accompany the International Pentecasotal Press Association (IPPA) Board on a tour of historic pentecostal sites in the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina.

We visited the Barney Creek site where Christian Union was organized; the Fields of the Wood; the Shearer Schoolhouse site; the Holy Ghost Marker; and the First Assembly House. The Board enjoyed lunch at the Fields of the Wood Cafe.

We were also joined by Dr. James Beaty, retired missionary, historian, and professor at Lee University and the Church of God Theological Seminary. Dr. Beaty is 82 years old and full of historical information. Fields of the Wood Property Caretaker Wayne Allen also joined us as tour guide for a part of the tour. Like Dr. Beaty, Bishop Allen is a storehouse of information.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the IPPA Board. It was a great day of learning and fellowship.

The IPPA Board is pictured above inside the J. C. Murphy home where the first assembly was held in January 1906. From left to right: Clyde Hughes, International Pentecostal Church of Christ (London, Ohio); Ken Horn, Assemblies of God (Springfield, MO), Shirley Spencer, International Pentecostal Holiness Church (Oklahoma City, OK), Virginia Chatham, Church of God of Prophecy (Cleveland, TN); James E. Cossey, Church of God (Cleveland, TN

Christmas Stockings at Fields of the Wood

I am posting this for Pastor Don Johnston. It is taken from a post that he made on another forum.

The Fields of the Wood is doing a little fund raiser that will go to benefit our Christmas Light Display. The money raised will be designated specifically for that purpose and will not be used for any other purposes. The funds will help us to purchase new decorations and repair some that we all ready have. The more we raise the better and better our Light Display will be each year.

Here is what we are doing. We are doing Christmas stockings made out of plywood and painted like a stocking. We are asking for a donation of $5.00 dollars per stocking. What we are going to do with them is put your name or what ever name you request and it will also have the abbreviation of the State you are from. It will also be numbered so in the case of more that one person with the same name from the same State your personal stocking can be found. We are then going to put them on stakes and line the driveway and roadways with them. We have several that have requested that we do one in memory of a loved one and we have set aside the side walk that goes up to the tomb to give the In Memory stocking a "special" place. We have one local church that requested a copy of the order form and they purchased 38 of them.

If you would like to do that with your local church we will also make an "extra" stocking that will have the name of your local church and then all of the orders that you send in with it will be grouped together following the church stocking.

You can make your donation one of two ways. If you are interested, please contact me at curity2@hughes.net.

Fields of the Wood

There have been some questions about the status of Fields of the Wood. The Church of God of Prophecy still owns and operates the Fields of the Wood.

The staff at the park are working diligently to make it the very best that it can be. As funds are available, renovations and repairs are being made.

The Church of God of Prophecy in Tennessee is raising funds to refurbish the Pavilion. Our goal is to see this project complete by Easter.

If you would like to give towards this project, another project or if you would like to join the Heritage Ministries Association for $10.00, please contact me.

Thank you.
