One more picture from California
I could not leave out this picture of Bro. Santos. He is quite a character and the very best offering booster.

Heritage Ministries Conference in California
My wife and I just returned from the Los Angeles area where our California Spanish Region hosted a Heritage Ministries Conference. We so enjoyed being with the fine folks in this region.
The Conference was held at the El Monte Church and was well attended by both young and old. Those gathered were very enthusiastic about our heritage, but they were also excited about moving forward in vision. They really brought to life our catchphrase for Heritage Ministries, "Preserving Heritage, Pursuing Vision."
We would like to thank Michael Wilson Ordonez. Bro. Ordonez is the Heritage Ministries Director for the region. He did a great job organizing and moderating the conference. We want to commend the Overseer, Bishop Joey Garcia, and his wife, Diana, for their outstanding leadership in this region.
We want to extend a "thank you" to the wonderful people that we met. Their kindness and hospitality was such a blessing. This was our first trip to California and these wonderful people made it extra special.

My wife and I were honored to join the Lakemoore Church in Morristown TN for Homecoming yesterday.
We know several people in this local church and we always enjoy connecting with them. It was especially good to see Charles and Ann Lanter. They retired to Morristown and attend the Lakemoore Church.
We want to thank Pastor Robert and Elisa Carpenter for allowing us to come. They are wonderful people and great friends. The Lord is really using them in Morristown.
Thank you Lakemoore for a great day!

Testimony
I thought you would be blessed by this testimony shared on the Fields of the Wood Group on Facebook by Rick Moyer.
Wow! I didn't know Fields of Wood was on here. I'm a diehard fan of this place. On October the 14th 9 years ago Jesus saved me on top of Ten Commandment Mountain in one of those little concrete chairs that sit by the edge. My wife and I go back there every year on October 14th to celebrate with the Lord what’s He's done in our lives. Unless Jesus returns before then this year will be no different. We plan on taking our place in those two chairs this October the 14th and basking in the glory of the Lord. Wow! Only God can transform a 20 year drug and alcohol addict into an ordained servant. I never finished High School but by the awesome grace and guidance of the Lord and Him changing my heart, I am now working on my Masters degree in Seminary!

Knoxville TN - Arrowhead COGOP
What a thrill it was to join with the Arrowhead Church yesterday for Homecoming 2009. They were celebrating 30 years in their current location.
This homecoming was very special, because I pastored Arrowhead for seven years (1998-2005). For me and my family, a visit to Arrowhead is like a family reunion. We are just thrilled to have been a part of the Vestal/Arrowhead congregation.
Arrowhead Church is planning a trip to Fields of the Wood on September 26 and they are looking into ways to partner with us in improving the park.
I would like to commend them for their willingness to help and for 30 years on John Sevier Hwy in Knoxville.

Heritage Partners
Dear Friends:
While association memberships are a key component in funding the Heritage Ministries Department, Fields of the Wood, and related sites, it is not enough.
In years past, various states sponsored a marker or building within the park. They would raise funds, and that marker or building would be repaired or updated as needed. Some areas continue to maintain these sponsorships.
For example, the Church of God of Prophecy in Tennessee has sponsored the pavilion for many years. As a part of their commitment as a sponsor, they recently invested a significant amount of money to refurbish the pavilion. You can see pictures of the before and after on this blog.
I realize that not all of our states and regions can fully sponsor a marker or building at the park, so there is a need to share the load. With that thought in mind, I would like to introduce the "Heritage Partners" campaign. States, regions, local churches, and individuals can adopt a marker, building, or project at the park with a monthly, quarterly, or annual financial commitment.
When these monies are received, they would be put in a restricted fund for that particular marker, building, or project. As repairs or upgrades are needed, those funds would be used. With enough Heritage Partners and Association Members, we could help ensure that the park and related historical sites would be maintained in excellent fashion.
If you think you would be interested, please let me know. I will send you a Heritage Partner form.
Thank you,
Paul Holt

West Virginia State Convention
I was privileged to be a part of the West Virginia State Convention this past weekend. This was my first trip to West Virginia and it was a memorable one.
I would like to thank the convention delegates for their hospitality and kindness. I so enjoyed the fellowship and the wonderful spirit.
I would also like to thank Regional Overseer, Bishop Fred Lawson and his wife. They made me feel right at home. Dr. Lawson preached a wonderful message on Sunday morning and I was particularly inspired by his exhortation to be missional churches.
Our prayers are with Dr. Lawson and the people of West Virginia as they move forward in ministry!

Great Day at Fields of the Wood!
Resurrection Celebration at Fields of the Wood was a day to remember!
We are conservatively estimating that at least 2,000 to 3,000 people visited the park that day. At times, there was hardly room to move in the Gift Shop and Cafe.
Under the tent, we were blessed by Brush Arbor, Pure 'n Heart, and the Gordons. As always the McCaysville Church of God did an excellent job with the Easter Pageant. We are honored to partner with them for this event. There was a wonderful spirit throughout the day. It was a great day of prayer, evangelism and community.
A special thank you to all who joined with us to make this a special day. An extra big thank you to our staff and volunteers that worked so hard to take care of every visitor.
Please make plans to be with us next year on April 3, 2010. There will be a few changes with activities being added for children and youth. It should be even better.
Our next big event for 2009 is Heritage Day on June 13. Watch this blog for details.
Blessings,

I would like to say "thank you" for the support received during the illness and after the passing of my Dad. God's grace has once again proven sufficient.
Thank you to each local church, friend, family member and International Office Staff & Leadership. We have been absolutely overwhelmed by your love and support.
A special thank you to Bishop E.C. McKinley. The message he preached at the funeral was simply outstanding.

Crossroads Church of God of Prophecy
The Crossroads Church of God of Prophecy in White Bluff TN was the number one donor to Heritage Ministries in 2008.
I made my first visit to Crossroads yesterday and it was worth the trip. This is a congregation that is enthusiastic about working for the Lord. I was privileged to share the Word wth them and to commend Pastor Gary Riley and local Heritage Ministries Director Bessie Corlew.
Sis. Corlew is an avid supporter of Heritage Ministries. Because of her influence, the church is already 100% in Heritage Ministries Association Memberships for 2009.
I want to thank the Crossroads Church for their hospitality and support.

News from Fields of the Woods
1. The Church of God of Prophecy in Tennessee is raising money to make repairs on the park pavilion. I was able to meet with the construction team last Thursday and the project is slated to be complete by Heritage Day on June 13, 2009.
2. Some repairs were recently made to the Psalms of Praise wall.
3. Work has begun on the arch at the bottom of Ten Commandment Mountain. It was in dire need of some stucco repair and paint. This project should be completed soon.
4. A new sign promoting the park, the gift shop, and the cafe is currently being installed in front of the park on Hwy 294. This should be a real attention grabber to those that are driving by!
5. The plane that was once on display at the park is currently getting some clean up and a face lift. We hope to have it on display again soon.
6. The All Nations Cross has been without flags for some time. Banners have been ordered and they will be on display from Easter to the end of November.
7. New Fields of the Wood brochures have been printed and are available. If you would like some brochures, please contact me at pholt@cogop.org.
A special thank you to our Fields of the Wood staff for all their hard work!
Blessings,
Paul Holt

Letter to Pastors & Heritage Ministries Directors - English
January 28, 2009
Dear Pastor & Heritage Ministries Director:
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! I trust that you are enjoying the blessings of the Lord and excited about the fresh opportunities that a new year provides.
Since many pastors and ministry directors have told me that they have not received any information about Heritage Ministries in quite some time, as the new Director, I am sending out this letter directly to you in an effort to open the doors of communication.
Because communication has been somewhat lacking, many have misconceptions about this ministry. I would like to encourage you by letting you know that Heritage Ministries (formerly CPMA) is still an operating ministry of the Church of God of Prophecy and, in contrast to what you may have heard, the Fields of the Wood is not closed, closing, nor up for sale.
Heritage Ministries exists to help preserve our heritage while encouraging our churches to pursue fresh vision. Funding for this ministry comes from donations and Heritage Ministries Association Memberships.
Individual Memberships, which are $10.00, provide financial support for efforts to preserve our heritage and maintain and improve Fields of the Wood, the First Assembly House, the Shearer Schoolhouse site, and the Holy Ghost Marker.
While Heritage Ministries is about more than Fields of the Wood, the bulk of the funds are used to operate the park. Over the past few years, there has been a decrease in memberships and donations, which has greatly hindered efforts to maintain the park in good order.
Even though the condition of the park is in need of improvements and repair, Fields of the Wood remains a popular tourist attraction, with people from most every denomination and all walks of life visiting regularly. A self-proclaimed atheist visited our park and said, “I cannot say that I believe . . . but for the first time in my life, I can see why people do believe.”
One visitor who came to the park for the first time on October 14, 2000, was an alcoholic in desperate need of help. While touring the park, he came under conviction and surrendered his life to Christ. He now returns to the Fields of the Wood every October 14 to celebrate what God did in his life and to join the Heritage Ministries Association.
This story and many more make it clear that Fields of the Wood has become far more than just a preservation of Church of God of Prophecy history. The park and related sites are now recognized as key historical points for the Pentecostal movement. Sinners are challenged by the “Word” in stone. Churches come for fellowship, prayer services, and baptisms. Families gather here, and individuals come to be alone with God amid His creation.
The park is a place of prayer, a place of evangelism, and a place of unity. It is a place that not only tells yesterday’s story; it also testifies of who we are today.
I would like to ask you to partner with us in 2009 to boost Heritage Ministries & Association Memberships, to revisit our heritage, and to pursue vision for tomorrow.
We are in the beginning stages of a new website; please check it out at www.fieldsofthewood.net. To keep up with what’s going on in Heritage Ministries, go to www.heritageministries.blogspot.com.
A flyer is included in this mailing for your bulletin board. If you do not have a Heritage Ministries booster in your church, I would like to encourage you to consider appointing one. If I can be of any assistance to your local church, please feel free to contact me.
Our goal is not to live in the past, but to understand our heritage so that we may be better prepared to pursue our vision.
Thank you for your support.
In Christ,
Paul Holt

First Assembly Commemoration Service
We were so blessed today as Bishop Howard shared with us at the First Assembly Commemoration Service.
I want to express my appreciation to the Fields of the Wood Worship Chapel for coordinating music, Bishop Ben Feliz for sharing, and Bishop Howard for bringing the message. It was a blessed day.
Special thanks to our Fields of the Wood staff. They did an excellent job getting things ready for the service and getting the burgers ready for lunch.
Thank the Lord for a great day. It will be available as a podcast soon.
Blessings,

Prayer Request for Don Johnston
Please remember Don Johnston in your prayers. Bro. Johnston is the pastor of the Fields of the Wood Worship Chapel and an employee of Fields of the Wood.
Several weeks ago, he went to get out of bed and both legs gave way under him. Doctors have discovered at least one ruptured disk and possibly a second one, along with two pinched nerves on either side of the spine. He is in a great deal of pain.
He is going to see a surgeon/pain management specialist on Thursday and will have a spinal block on Friday.
Please pray that the Lord would strengthen, encourage, and heal.
Thank you so much.

Fields of the Wood Needs
While Heritage Ministries is about more than Fields of the Wood, the bulk of the funds raised are used to operate the park.

A self-proclaimed atheist visited our park and said, “I cannot say that I believe . . . but for the first time in my life, I can see why people do believe.”
A number of people have told me that they would have given to improve the park, if they had only known of the need. Well, I want to make you aware of the following needs. . .
- The Bible at the top of 10 Commandment Mountain is in serious need of repair
- Many of the markers need repair and/or updating
- The arch at the bottom of 10 Commandment Mountain needs repair
- We have a need for improved signage at the main entrance to make people aware of the Gift Shop & Cafe
- The Pavilion is in serious need of remodel (Tennessee COGOP is working towards taking care of this project)
- There is a great deal of concrete work that needs to be done on steps, walkways and walls
- We need funding to be able to keep banners on the All Nations Cross from March through November
- We need a commercial freezer (meeting North Carolina regulations) for the cafe
- When funds are available, we have plans to refurbish the plane that was once on display at the park.
- and more
